Training and Funding

Training

IT, general business courses and training advice can be found in several ways and have varying costs depending on your business circumstances or the source of the training.

Contact your local Train to Gain advisor.  Train to Gain is the national skills service that supports employers in improving the skills of their employees as a route to improving their business performance. Depending on the skill needed and the employees involved, funding might be available.

Business Link  is a self-help portal of action-focused information for small and medium sized businesses, linking to all relevant ministries and departments. The advice is localised and identifies courses and events in your local area. Often there are no charges for these courses.

Learn Direct operates a network of more than 800 online learning centres in England and Wales, providing access to a range of e learning opportunities. Training can be done at your own premises using the internet or DVDs.  For further advice and guidance, contact http://www.learndirect-business.co.uk/

The BMF schedules a range of short courses. Courses can be tailored made to your organisation and run on your premises.

Many local colleges will have business units that have training specifically for the work place, in some cases they are able to carry out training needs analysis and find appropriate funding.

Health and Safety Training

If you run a business, you have a responsibility to protect the health and safety of your employees.  Details of your duties and level of responsibility according to the size of your organisation can be obtained from the Health and Safety Executive.

The BMF has developed a Health and Safety guide that is available to all members.  For further information contact the Technical Department.

Further practical Health and Safety advice can be found at Business Link.
