Training
IT, general business courses and
training advice can be found in several ways and have varying costs
depending on your business circumstances or the source of the
training.

Train to Gain is the national skills service that supports
employers in improving the skills of their employees as a
route to improving their business performance. Depending on the
skill needed and the employees involved, funding might be
available.
Business Link is
a self-help portal of action-focused information for small and
medium sized businesses, linking to all relevant ministries and
departments. The advice is localised and identifies courses and
events in your local area. Often there are no charges for these
courses.
Learn Direct operates a
network of more than 800 online learning centres in England and
Wales, providing access to a range of e learning opportunities.
Training can be done at your own premises using the internet or

The BMF schedules a range of
short
courses. Courses can be tailored made to your
organisation and run on your premises.
Many local colleges will have
business units that have training specifically for the work place,
in some cases they are able to carry out training needs analysis
and find appropriate funding.
Health and Safety Training
If you run a business, you have a
responsibility to protect the health and safety of your
employees. Details of your duties and level of responsibility
according to the size of your organisation can be obtained from the
Health and Safety
Executive.
The BMF has developed a Health and
Safety guide that is available to all members. For further

Funding
Training Grants are
available from the BMF towards training applications, check to see
if you are eligible for a grant.

The Sector Skills Council for Science,
Engineering and Manufaturing Technologies,
SEMTA, has £65 million to develop skills and improve
business performance.
Funding will be available to support
the following qualifications:
- NVQ Level 2 and a second Level 2 for
key employees, the second must be in Business
Improvement Techniques (BIT).
- NVQ Level 3 and second Level 3 for
key employees, the second must be in BIT.
- All age Apprenticeships
- Skills for life
- Management and leadership
The Worshipful Company of
Shipwrights offer grants to assist individuals.
