2012 Abitare La Barca Concept Award
British design student Daniel Humphreys, from
Plymouth University won the internationally recognised Abitare La
Barca Concept Award design competition. Representing the UK, Daniel
is the first British design student to have won this prestigious
industry award. The Abitare La Barca Award, now in its 6th year,
was hosted at the sea technology and design event, Seatec held in
Carrara, Italy earlier this year. For the third year running an
entrant from the UK attended the event to showcase their portfolio
to industry representatives and compete on an international
stage.

The aim of the SYUK competition is to select a
student that is currently studying a design orientated degree, to
represent British design talent.
Presiding over the award, Professor of
Industrial design, Marco Maiocchi said: “Daniel’s design was an
excellent match among the constraints, with significant original
solutions, with attention to detail to aesthetical values. It is
rich in design details and excellent drawing execution.”
